THE HISTORY OF THE BEREAN FUNDAMENTAL BAPTIST CHURCH

The Berean Fundamental Baptist Church came into existence in the summer of the year 1984, precisely, in the moth of June. At the time it was called Open Door Baptist Church, a Haitian Ministry, and the founder, Pastor Elie Jean-Pierre, was the assistant under the Rev. Richard McClain, the President of the South Florida Baptist Bible Institute, where the Pastor was still a student, preparing for his Bachelor's degree.

A year later the name of the church was changed to Berean Fundamental Baptist Church, and Pastor Elie Jean-Pierre was ordained, and called to be its Pastor. Our first service took place on the Northside of East Davie Blvd, in a duplex, converted into a church building. We met with seven people: Anne-Marie, my wife, who went to be with the Lord, in the year 2012, my brother Etienne Jean-Pierre whose turn came two years later, brother Bryan Desamour who was our first Secretary, our first treasurer, and our first Sunday school Superintendant who today is the Assistant Pastor at United Church in West Palm Beach, brother Paul Nelson, a missionary called Norma Marot, our pianist, and a Brother called Wagner.

In the year 1987, we purchased a piece of land in the city of Oakland Park in order to build a new church building thereon. There was a big building located on that spot which was used as a depot that the city ordered to be destroyed. We obtained a permit to erect a two story building for the church. The work was going successfully. One Tuesday afternoon the Pastor was supervising the installation of the roof when he received a visit from a lady from the City inviting people of the community to attend certain meetings led by Habitat for Humanity, Pastor Elie responded. The meeting took place at the Old Methodist Church also located in Oakland Park. This property became the home of the Berean Fundamental Baptist Church of Florida, we held our first service on Sunday July 8, 1990, and we have been at this location until this day.

The Lord works in mysterious ways. He has been good to us, as He promised to never abandon nor forsaken us. He is still working on us, with us, through us and for us. We bless His holy name.
